  • Karim is a Partner in the Dispute Resolution team in Dubai. A US qualified attorney, Karim is a Part II qualified Practitioner with the DIFC Courts and appears regularly before arbitration tribunals.  

    His experience and skill in this area makes him an invaluable member of both the Dispute Resolution team and for our international client base.  His dynamic experience encompasses working for both multinational and local entities regarding all manner of disputes in the local UAE Courts, arbitration proceedings, and the DIFC Courts. His practice includes a broad range of commercial matters with particular expertise in shareholder, commercial agency, banking, and real estate disputes. 

    This versatility is a significant asset with disputes in the region given the parallel jurisdictions in the UAE and the multi-pronged nature of disputes. Karim is also a leading Partner in the department’s White Collar Practice, where he regularly advises and represents individuals, court appointed trustees and governments on Interpol, extradition, fraud, asset tracing, and enforcement matters. 

    His team has acted on several high profile matters involving billions of dollars in recovered funds . He has also been appointed as a Special Master for the US District Court for the Northern District Court of Illinois. Karim is a member of the American Bar Association, AIJA, and is admitted to the New Jersey and New York State Bars.

    • Represented a private equity investment company in an AED 1.4 billion arbitration against an operations and management company of the hospital acquired by our client.
    • Appointed as Special Master in the US Federal Court of the Northern District of Illinois to investigate fraud related a class action law suit against a Chinese investor and Chicago property developers.
    • Appointed by a sovereign government to advise and act in respect of proceedings in the UAE.
    • Conducted internal investigations of senior executives and employees for a leading global razor and cosmetic company relating to violation of company policies and criminal activity. Provided witness testimony in the UK High Court. 
    • Represented a leading global logistics company in a dispute with a government authority over $100 million in alleged customs violations.   
    • Represented a New York based company focused on alternative private equity trading platforms in respect of a dispute with a Dubai shipping magnate and his family concerning a loan of approximately AED 350,000,000 and allegations that the individuals concealed the existence of mortgages over vessels by forging documents and making fraudulent filings to different government authorities.
    • Represented a leading regional healthcare group in arbitration proceedings related to a multimillion-dollar pharmaceutical and medical device distribution agreement.
    • Advised and acted for the Omani Investment Authority and its subsidiary in respect of a shareholder dispute in one of the largest water management companies in the UAE. 
    • Advised on and obtained a favorable result relating to the disclosure of confidential company information by a director and shareholder in the UAE in a $150 million claim.
    • Represented the world’s leading managed cloud kitchen platform and the region’s fastest start up to achieve “unicorn” status to take action against a former brand manager for breach of their post resignation contract undertaking.
