Sanam Zulfiqar Khan

Sanam Zulfiqar Khan is a Senior Counsel in the Dispute Resolution team based in Dubai.

With over 13 years’ experience advising on complex commercial disputes across the UK and the Middle East, Sanam specialises in commercial litigation, banking disputes, regulatory investigations and shareholder disputes. She advises a broad range of clients, including financial institutions, corporates, high net worth individuals and public bodies, often in high-value and high-stakes matters involving cross-border elements.

Sanam has particular experience acting for banks and financial institutions in mis-selling claims, derivatives disputes and multi-jurisdictional regulatory investigations. She also has experience in international arbitration under institutional and ad hoc rules, including ICC and DIFC-LCIA proceedings.

• Advised an international bank in relation to a claim in the DIFC Courts regarding the mis-selling of FX products to a high net worth individual.
• Assisted an international US bank in a high-profile global cross-border regulatory investigation following a request from a Hong Kong regulator to the DFSA for the production of documents.
• Advised a whistleblower in relation to a report to the Central Bank and the DFSA for breaches of anti-money laundering legislation and the DFSA Rules.
• Acted for a leading global aerospace insurer in defending ICC arbitral proceedings brought by one of the shareholders.
• Acted for a large oil distributor in a freezing injunction application against a Lebanese bank in the DIFC Courts.
• Advised an international bank on an internal investigation into wrongdoing by an employee and his subsequent dismissal.
• Acted for a global hotel operator against the hotel owner in a freezing injunction application made before the DIFC Court in support of arbitration proceedings.
