  • Khalid is a Partner in our litigation practice. Khalid joined Hadef & Partners in January 2013 and has a wide range of experience in criminal, civil and commercial disputes, particularly, corporate disputes, Islamic and conventional banking disputes, real estate and lease disputes, labor disputes, bankruptcy and enforcement of securities. Khalid also advises and represents clients in arbitration proceedings.

    Prior to joining Hadef & Partners, Khalid worked as a notary public between the years of 1997 and 2001 in Libya. Khalid has been practicing as a lawyer for over 20 years - he worked as an advocate (with right of audience up to the Court of Appeal in Libya), specializing in representing insurance companies in the courts in Libya. He also worked for the Ministry of Housing in Libya.

    Khalid is a member of the Libyan Committee for Human Rights and a member of the Libyan Bar Association.

    Khalid obtained a Bachelor of Law degree in 1995 from Qar Younis University (now Benghazi University), Libya and a Higher Diploma in Criminal Law from the same University in 2006 and holds a master’s degree in criminal procedure in 2022 from Benghazi University, Libya.

    • Advising a client in relation to a dispute with the director before the courts and secured an award of AED48m to the client.
    • Successfully overturned a judgment of the lower court for over AED80m against a client in relation to the construction of a hotel.
    • Advised a private client regarding the application of wills under the UAE law.
    • Advised an aviation authority in a criminal case before the military court filed against a number of its employees and a pilot training officer.
    • Secured an award of AED 5m for a client in a commercial dispute arising from the terms of the memorandum of understanding regarding the management of a school and the breach of the terms of the memorandum of understanding and the misuse of the school’s profits and revenues. 
    • Advised a client on legal mechanisms available to recover any amounts under final and conclusive judgments.
    • Advised a bank on the permissibility of mortgaging properties granted by the government as a security for facilities provided by the bank to its clients.
    • Participated with the Regulatory & Government Advisory team in drafting Federal Decree-Law No. (28) of 2022 on Tax Procedures.
    • Secured for a charity client an award of more than AED6m.
      Advised an international law firm on enforceability of a foreign judgment in Libya.
