  • Iffa is an Associate in our Dispute Resolution practice in Dubai. She is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales and has experience in the United Kingdom and the UAE. Her practice encompasses commercial, regulatory disputes and complex cross-border litigation.
     
    Before moving to Dubai, Iffa trained and qualified at Herbert Smith Freehills in London, where she worked in the Commercial Disputes practice and completed two client secondments to British American Tobacco’s headquarters. She subsequently worked in-house within Hilton’s Middle East legal team.
     
    During her career, Iffa has worked on litigation before the UK Supreme Court and other senior courts, as well as proceedings in South Africa, Pakistan and Canada. In the UAE, she has advised on contentious and cross-border matters and has prepared expert reports on UAE law for overseas court proceedings.

    • Worked as part of the legal team representing insurers in Financial Conduct Authority v Arch Insurance (UK) Ltd and others, the landmark UK Supreme Court test case concerning business interruption insurance coverage arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • Responded to government consultations and judicial challenges to tobacco control regulatory measures (e.g. plain packaging, graphic health warnings, ingredients bans and tobacco levies) in numerous jurisdictions in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
    • Assisting with ongoing pre-trial defence preparations regarding multi-billion dollar claims for healthcare costs by multiple provinces in Canada
    • Worked on constitutional proceedings before the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa and related proceedings before senior courts in Pakistan.
    • Advised on commercial contracts and co-authored UAE-specific commercial precedents published by Lexis® Middle East, including an exclusive franchise agreement and limitation of liability provisions.
