Basil Siddiqi

Basil has enjoyed a broad based practice spanning diverse areas of law including real estate, construction, litigation, arbitration and corporate and commercial. He has an in depth knowledge of UAE law generally and UAE real estate law in particular and is a former Head of both our Real Estate and Construction Practice groups in Abu Dhabi.

Originally trained as a Barrister he practised as counsel on the original side of the Bombay High Court, Bombay, India, for almost a decade before coming to the UAE. He was a part-time lecturer at the K. C. Law College in Bombay. Admitted to the Bar in Bombay in 1983 and admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Bar of Ontario, Canada, in 1998.

Acted successfully on behalf of claimant in arbitration relating to structural and mechanical design defects in large real estate development involving a claim of AED 148,209,785.45.
Advised Abu Dhabi Government investment company in respect of occupational leases for Sowwah Island development and redevelopment of Sheikh Zayed Sports City.
Advised client in relation to major island development in Abu Dhabi, which is one of Abu Dhabi’s largest private real estate investment and development project.
Advised promoters in relation to development of a 330 key luxury hotel and resort in Seychelles.
Advised client in relation to development of 150 key luxury hotel (Four Seasons) and resort in Seychelles.
Advised developer in respect of development of five plots of land on Reem Island, including a 80 story iconic tower, and drafting sales documentation for sale of residential, office and retail units.
Advised local pipe manufacturing company in relation to major chlorination pipelines and seawater intake project for refinery in Al Ruwais.
Advised clients in relation to several high-rise building projects in Abu Dhabi including high rise office towers.
Advised the Government of Abu Dhabi in respect of prominent projects, including contract related to privatisation of collection & transportation of municipal solid waste, post contractual advice and tendering of a major hospital management contract.
Advised Government of Abu Dhabi in connection with contractual disputes relating to the construction contract of the new Grand Mosque.
Advised Abu Dhabi Police in connection with EPC contract for the modernisation of the Abu Dhabi Police radio network and development and management of four star hotel at Police Officers Club.
Advised developer relative to the re-development of the Abu Dhabi Central Market. Drafted first Musataha Agreement used in an actual transaction in the UAE.
Advised client in connection with Abu Dhabi Polymers Park and drafted lease documentation.
