Hadef & Partners is proud to have been contributing authors on the Lexis Nexis Practice Note - Maritime Arbitration in UAE.
On 14 September 2021, the Ruler of Dubai issued Dubai Decree No. 34/2021 on Dubai International Arbitration Centre which had the effect of, inter alia, abolishing the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre (EMAC) and the Dubai International Financial Centre - London Court of International Arbitration (DIFC-LCIA) Arbitration Centre. More specifically, under Dubai Decree No.34/2021, the EMAC was abolished and the EMAC’s assets, operations rights and obligations were transferred to the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC).
The note provides practical guidance on navigating maritime disputes under the DIAC Arbitration Rules 2022, following the abolishment of the EMAC. It covers key procedural aspects, jurisdictional issues, interim relief, and the current legal landscape for maritime arbitration in the UAE.
